PATIENT INFORMATION ABOUT SKINPEN - VERSION 1.01

At Cosmo Laser, we use SkinPen Microneedling to address wrinkles, stretch marks, uneven skin texture, and scars, including those from acne.

With SkinPen Microneedling, the skin is penetrated with fine needles at varying depths ranging from 0.25 mm to 1.5 mm. The needles create controlled damage to the skin, which, through the skin's natural healing process, stimulates the production of elastin and collagen, essential for the skin's rejuvenating effect. SkinPen is an FDA-approved treatment that, in addition to the above, provides renewed radiance and texture to the skin, with only a 24-hour healing phase afterward.

SkinPen can be used on all skin types and all over the body without specific preconditions.

The treatment area should be free from infections, wounds, or irritation, and it is recommended to ensure that the skin is well-maintained before starting treatment. Well-maintained skin responds better to the treatment and recovers more quickly. Failure to comply with these precautions may result in treatment cancellation or postponement. 

In cases where there is an increased risk of side effects, we reserve the right to charge a fee of DKK 500 if you are sent home, and the appointment is canceled later than 24 hours before the treatment. This also applies to no-shows or cancellations made later than 24 hours before the treatment. According to cosmetic treatment regulations, the treated area must be photographed before the treatment can begin.

Before starting the treatment, the skin is cleansed and disinfected to minimize the risk of infections. A serum is applied to the skin to help the needles glide smoothly, and then each area is treated with 3 passes.

The skin will be irritated after the treatment and will appear red, warm, tingling, and slightly swollen. Cooling the skin can be comfortable, so after the treatment, you have the option to use ice packs to cool the treated area.

With SkinPen treatment, there is an increased risk of skin infection. Due to this risk of infection, you should be extremely cautious about touching your skin for 24 hours after the treatment. Make sure you have freshly washed hands before touching the treated area. The burning sensation in the skin usually subsides within 2-6 hours, and afterward, the skin may feel tender, warm, and sensitive. You will be provided with a hyaluronic acid-based cream for post-treatment care during the first 24 hours after the treatment. Afterward, you can use your regular skincare products and makeup.

It is recommended to have 3-6 treatments with 4-week intervals if you want skin rejuvenation, overall skin improvement, or tissue tightening. If you want to reduce deeper lines, wrinkles, and possible scar tissue, 6 treatments are usually necessary. The results of the treatment gradually appear during the treatment course, but since cells continue to work for up to 3 months after the treatment, the final results are visible only after this period. You can effectively supplement with follow-up treatments 1-2 times a year after completing the treatment course.

With SkinPen treatment, there is a small risk of infection with either bacteria or viruses. Infection may manifest as redness, tenderness, swelling of the skin, and possibly a fever. If an infection occurs, it will be experienced as a sudden worsening or setback in the healing process.

The risk of infection is highest in the first few days after treatment and can be easily treated with antibiotics. If you suffer from recurrent outbreaks of herpes on your face, it is advisable to start preventive treatment the day before. Temporary acne or breakouts may occur after treatment in areas where you already have a tendency to have acne.

The following are reasons why you cannot be approved for the treatment:

• History of melanoma or skin cancer
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Rosacea
• Some types of prescription medications for acne
• Tendency to form keloid scars
• Anticoagulant treatment (blood-thinning medication)
• Untreated epilepsy
• Hemophilia (bleeding disorder)

According to cosmetic treatment regulations, you can give consent for treatment once verbal information has been provided. A companion is always welcome to be present during consultation and treatment. We are always available to assist with any further questions.
