#1 In Brief

Expand FAQ

At Cosmo Laser, we perform skin-enhancing treatment with Skinbooster. Skinbooster is a specific type of non-permanent filler with a high concentration of hyaluronic acid and excellent flowability. This product does not create lifts or changes in facial features but enhances skin quality and glow.

Skinbooster is a sterile injectable gel composed of the same type of hyaluronic acid found naturally in our connective tissue, along with saline.

#2 Before Treatment

Expand FAQ

During your consultation, the nurse will assess the areas that require treatment and, in collaboration with you, create a treatment plan.

Avoid taking blood-thinning medications such as fish oil, Treo, Ipren, Kodimagnyl, and similar medications for four days before the treatment, as this can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding in the treatment area.

The treatment area should be free from infections, wounds, or irritation, and it is recommended that the skin is well-maintained before starting treatment. Well-maintained skin responds better to the treatment and recovers more quickly.

Failure to comply with these precautions may result in treatment cancellation or postponement. In cases where there is an increased risk of side effects, we reserve the right to charge a fee of DKK 500 if you are sent home, and the appointment is canceled later than 24 hours before the treatment. This also applies to no-shows or cancellations made later than 24 hours before the treatment. According to cosmetic treatment regulations, the treated area must be photographed before the treatment can begin.

#3 During Treatment

Expand FAQ

The treatment plan is reviewed, followed by cleaning and disinfection of the skin, and identification of the treatment area. The treatment involves injecting Skinbooster into the agreed-upon areas. For most individuals, the treatment is not painful, but there is typically mild to moderate pain associated with the injection itself.

#4 After Treatment

Expand FAQ

Immediately after treatment, Skinbooster may be identified as slight swelling in the treatment area. There may be mild redness and tenderness in the treatment area. In some cases, initial skin discoloration, resembling the early stages of bruising, may occur, which is entirely normal and is due to minor tissue bleeding.

After treatment, there is a risk of infection in the treatment area. It is important to avoid touching the treated area and applying makeup and creams for at least 4 hours. Also, refrain from strenuous physical activity for 2-3 days and sauna and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks, as the skin-enhancing product can be more sensitive to intense heat during the first weeks after treatment.

Avoid taking blood-thinning medications, such as fish oil, Treo, Ipren, Kodimagnyl, and similar medications for 2 days after treatment, as this can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

It takes up to 4 weeks for Skinbooster to fully integrate into the tissue, followed by up to 6 weeks for the cell-enhancing process to provide visible improvement in skin quality in the treatment area.

#5 Number of Treatments and Expectations

Expand FAQ

Depending on the assessment prior to your treatment, 3 repeat treatments at 4-week intervals are recommended to achieve the optimal result. After completing a treatment course, it is advisable to maintain treatment 1-2 times a year. The duration of the result depends on various factors, including the breakdown of hyaluronic acid, sun exposure, and aging.

#6 Side Effects and Risks

Expand FAQ

Bruises typically disappear for most individuals after 4-6 days. In rare cases, larger hematomas, which are blood collections under the skin, may occur and usually resolve within 2-4 weeks. During this period, the tissue may be tender, appear reddish/bluish, and there may be increased swelling, as well as palpable irregularities in the tissue.

If you have a tendency for frequent herpes outbreaks, an injection treatment may trigger such an outbreak. Therefore, preventive treatment is recommended.

With non-permanent filler treatment, there is a small risk of infection with either bacteria or viruses. Infection is characterized by redness, tenderness, swelling of the skin, and possible fever. If an infection occurs, it will be experienced as a sudden worsening or regression in the process. The risk of infection is greatest in the first hours after treatment and can easily be treated with antibiotics. Symptoms of infection may resemble common side effects of filler treatment, but if in doubt, please contact the clinic. If it is outside of clinic hours, please contact your own doctor or the emergency department.

There is a minimal risk of experiencing an allergic reaction. The filler primarily consists of moisture and a small amount of lidocaine. Allergy to lidocaine is extremely rare but, if it occurs, can provoke an allergic reaction. The filler products used in the clinic can be fully integrated into the tissue. Despite this, in rare cases, filler nodules may form in the tissue. These usually subside and disappear within a short time and can often be massaged away.

Additionally, with filler treatment, granulomas, necrosis, and ischemia with the risk of blindness may occur. However, it should be strongly emphasized that these cases are extremely rare, and only a few cases have been recorded worldwide.

These cases require medical treatment. If there are irregularities, signs of infection, or any unexpected skin reactions, it is advisable to contact the clinic immediately and consult with a doctor or nurse.
