CO2 Laser Treatment at Cosmo Laser
At Cosmo Laser, we offer CO2 laser treatment. The CO2 laser is ideal for resurfacing sun damage, pigmentation spots, enlarged pores, mildly crepey skin, as well as deeper skin conditions like scars, fine lines, and wrinkles on both small and large areas. The treatment is particularly well-suited for those wishing to reduce skin irregularities and achieve a smoother, firmer texture and a more even, radiant skin tone.
Please note: A deposit of DKK 1,000 is required when booking a CO2 laser treatment.
#1 In Brief
The CO2 laser is the most potent and rejuvenating laser treatment available. It is excellent for addressing sun damage, pigmentation spots, enlarged pores, fine lines, and deeper textural irregularities. It effectively reduces unevenness and enhances firmness and glow.
This is an ablative laser, meaning it removes a portion of the skin. It is fractional, which means only a fraction of the skin is treated at a time, while the majority remains intact—resulting in gentler treatment and faster recovery.
The fractional CO2 laser heats and vaporizes small skin points, leaving tiny holes up to 1-2 mm deep. This triggers skin regeneration with minimal discomfort. We use one of the latest CO2 laser models, creating ultra-fine 0.16 mm diameter perforations, leading to a subtler dotted appearance post-treatment.
The laser removes part of the epidermis and stimulates skin regeneration, reducing visible damage. Deep tissue heating boosts collagen and elastin production, tightening the skin and smoothing wrinkles, scars, and lines. It also enhances moisture retention via increased glycosaminoglycan formation.
#2 Before Treatment
A mandatory consultation with our experienced dermatologist is required before your first treatment. Your skin will be assessed, and a personalized treatment plan developed. You'll also receive guidance on optimal skincare prior to treatment.
We will also discuss necessary pain relief and possibly antibiotics; prescriptions are provided. For the best results and to minimize complications, your skin should be as pale as possible. Avoid tanning, solariums, and self-tanners for 4 weeks before and after the procedure.
If precautions are observed, and SPF 50 with UVA/UVB protection is used consistently, treatment can be performed year-round.
The treatment area must be free from infections, wounds, or irritation, and should be well-cared to ensure better healing and results. If these precautions are not followed, the treatment will be canceled or postponed. We will cancel if we assess an increased risk of side effects.
Photography of the treatment area is required by law before the treatment begins.
#3 During Treatment
Please arrive without makeup. The skin is cleansed an hour before the procedure, then a topical anesthetic cream is applied and left for 1 hour.
The treatment feels like a warming, tingling sensation. Some areas may feel more sensitive, but pain medication is usually not necessary.
#4 After Treatment
You may feel a slight burning sensation that subsides within hours. Cooling the face with a walk in fresh air can help. Redness, swelling, and mild oozing may occur and will diminish over a few days. Keeping your head elevated while sleeping can reduce swelling, especially around the eyes.
To prevent infection, you’ll be prescribed oral antibiotics for 5 days after the treatment.
The day after, gently rinse your skin with lukewarm water. Twice daily, apply boiled cotton pads soaked in lukewarm vinegar water (1 cap of clear household vinegar in 0.5L cooled, boiled water) for 10 minutes. Follow this with antibiotic ointment.
After 2–3 days, small scabs may form and feel rough or itchy. This is normal and scabs will shed in 4–6 days. Keep the skin moisturized and avoid picking to prevent infection. Our clinic will guide you through the optimal post-treatment care.
Sun protection is critical to prevent side effects. Resume sunscreen use after 1 week. Healing typically takes 1–2 weeks, and results become visible thereafter. In more intensive treatments on smaller areas, healing may exceed 1 week.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled if needed after 1 week.
#5 Number of Treatments and Expectations
On average, 2–3 sessions are needed, spaced 10–12 weeks apart. Your consultation will determine the required number and treatment plan.
The final result appears 6 months after the last treatment due to ongoing collagen development. The skin may appear 5–10 years younger, depending on your age. Results can last for years and diminish only as part of the natural aging process.
#6 Side Effects and Risks
Rarely, infections can develop in treated areas, with symptoms like warmth, pain, redness, swelling, or blisters. These require medical attention.
Post-treatment hyperpigmentation is uncommon but more likely in darker skin tones or those with pigmentation disorders. These individuals may benefit from pre-treatment depigmentation therapies.
Unexpected reactions should always be reported to the clinic immediately.
#7 Contraindications
The following are reasons why you cannot be approved for the treatment:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Use medications or creams that cause photosensitivity.
- Have active skin infections or open wounds in the treatment area.
- Are prone to keloid scarring.
#8 Consent
By law, you can give informed consent 48 hours after receiving oral information about the procedure. Companions are welcome during consultation and treatment.
We’re always here to help with additional questions.
